End of Week 5 Pānui 2022

Kia ora koutou,

Getting in one day early everyone since this is the last reminder that school is closed for instruction tomorrow on Friday 4th March as it is a Teacher Only Day.

Covid-19:

I know you all are probably getting sick of reading about this, but due to the surge in positive cases in Palmerston North, I want to reiterate the importance of monitoring yourself, your child/ren for symptoms. If anyone displays any of these, please keep your child at home and get a Covid test and let us know at school via Skool Loop App, Email or Phone. We won’t be reporting each and every case made known to us because we now know that it is in our immediate community and based on the predictions, the number of cases will continue to increase until the peak is reached. We will monitor the effect this will have on our kura and follow the graphic I have already provided to you and keep you all posted. If your child is isolating but isn’t sick with Covid, please reach out to their teacher via email or Seesaw if you want them to engage in learning and they will sort something out for you.

Marble March Madness:

It has been amazing to see the uptake on this school wide initiative and it is awesome to see our paved areas littered with kids playing marbles! So grab some marbles from the $2 shop or Kmart and get your child involved. Check out the videos that Kauri made for the Seniors and the Juniors if you haven’t yet, or maybe watch them again to get their ‘view count’ up!

Interschool Triathlon:

This is on Wednesday 16th March and run by the Mananwatū Triathlon Club. It is open to anyone keen in Year 5/6. We have limited spaces available and the entries close tomorrow at 3pm. All the details and registrations can be found here

Cluster Swimming:

This is on the day after Interschool Triathlon on Thursday 17th March and is run by Linton Army Camp School. Shane has sent home the letters today, so if your child is competing and you can support us with travel or supervision, please email me to let us know.

Technics Music:

There are spaces available if you would like your child to be involved in this. You can email Heather at harmonyhouse@xtra.co.nz or call her on 027 245 2780 for more information.

Blood Drive:

Colleen Kerr (Myah’s mum in Kauri) works for the NZ Blood Service and is pushing to get people to come to the blood drive at Massey University at the Student Lounge on the 14th/15th March between 9.30-3pm. Did you know that blood only last 35 days? So the need for regular donors is huge. 80% of us will need blood or blood products at some stage during our lives, but only 4% of us actually donate.

Hockey:

All the best to our Year 5/6 team who had their first game tonight. Remember if you are playing on Turf 1, please enter through the main gate and exit through the far gate by the containers. If you are playing on Turf 2, please enter by the side gate beside the dugouts on Turf 2 and exit through the far gate by the containers. Thanks for your support.

Bubble Bingo

With the ever-changing environment we find ourselves in at the moment, Sport Manawatū have come up with a fun way to keep you and your whānau active. They have created 21 days of little challenges for your bubble to undertake each day, starting on Monday 7th March. After dinner each night, one member from your bubble picks a number between 1 and 21 and that is your activity for the next day. The challenges do not have to be done in order. There is $1000 worth of spot prizes up for grabs but these can only be won if you are registered! Click here to register and download the challenge sheet.

Monster Raffle Sale Tickets:

Hopefully you have these already, but let us know if you would like to sell some more. There are bidding sheets available at the office for the silent auctions, please pop in if you wish to bid or if you can’t make it in, feel free to message Anna on 021 426 685 to register a bid.

Thanks for your thoughts and understanding given the current climate of the world right now. It is a battle and everything is changing daily, but I’ll leave you with the words from one of my favourite books; Wonder by RJ Palacio – “In a world where you can be anything, be kind!” Enjoy your (extended) weekend and looking forward to seeing you all on Monday.

Ngā mihi mahana (warmest of wishes)
