Kia Ora Whānau,
Well just like that ‘Week One is Done’ and I’ve survived my first week as a principal and I’m just loving my new role out here! I’ve enjoyed getting to know your tamariki and Turitea seems like a really unique and special place to be, I can see why Glenys stayed here so long. I know we have restrictions in place which is proving to be a barrier in developing those important connections that have been part of Turitea’s ‘bread and butter’ for so long. Rest assured, we will find ways to continue to keep you all in the loop and hopefully through these pānui (newsletters) and our teachers’ use of Seesaw will achieve that.
Pickup/Drop Off:
Thank you all for your continued patience and understanding around this. I was prepared for the worst, but was pleasantly surprised at how this has been going. We are in a difficult spot with where we are situated and the construction work going on, so we all appreciate you playing your part in making this work for our community.
School Lunches:
Subway is all set ready for next week and will be able to be used every week. Head on over to Lunchonline to sign up for an account and have a day off making lunches. Our pizza lunches through Hell Pizza aren’t able to continue in 2022, but we will work with the PTA and Lunchonline to try and find alternatives for our kids.
School PTA:
Last night at the PTA Meeting we made the unfortunate decision to cancel the Monster Garage Sale, which was a real shame. We looked for ways around it, but we were unable to run the event under Red Level of the CPF. The PTA will be in touch with more details about an alternative Monster Raffle Sale that they want to still run. They are also starting Lunchtime Juicies. You are able to buy your child a card for $10 that they keep at school with six preloaded juicies that they can use every lunchtime. More information will come out about this on Tuesday next week.
Younger Siblings:
Thanks to those of you who have let us know if you have any members of your family turning 5 this year. It is helpful for us in the office, as it gives us an indication of whether or not we can allow any out of zone families into our school over the year. Please let us know if you have someone that we haven’t already got on our pre-enrol.
School Donations/Activity Fee:
Kia ora to those of you who have already paid these online, we really do appreciate your promptness. Some of you have been asking about receipts, we will get those out to you ASAP.
Property Updates
The team from the Flooring Room have been working hard this week to get the carpet laid and the autex applied to the walls. It is looking amazing and I know the kids in Matai and Rata are super excited to get into their new spaces. The official date of inspection is pegged for the 14th February, so hopefully we can help move them in after school.
Unfortunately, there is a delay on the install of the turf, a sign of the times in this climate. The projected completion date is now May/June which is disappointing. We are hoping that Isles Construction can help find an alternative solution available a bit sooner.
Netball:
The netball season is all set to start up again on the 15th February. If your child is in Year 1-4 and would like to play, then please register them here. It is at Vautier Park on a Monday for Year 1/2 and either a Tuesday or Wednesday for Year 3/4 and costs $30 per person. Great to see some registrations for this already.
Thanks everyone for your positive feedback and warm greetings at pickup and drop off. I apologise to those of you who I haven’t recognised without your mask on – shocking Troy! This mandate certainly makes it a challenge for someone like me who prides themselves on knowing everyone’s name. Bare with me, I will get there whānau…
Enjoy the long weekend and I hope they got the weather report wrong and we get some more sunshine. See you all back on Tuesday.
Ngā Manaakitanga, (Best Wishes)
