Kia ora koutou,
Thanks for your support around us having our staff only day on Tuesday. It was great for us as a team to get out of our own school and go and look at two other schools which are of a similar size and are on the rural outskirts of town just like us. The pics below are of us at Kairanga and Newbury Schools. It gave us plenty of discussion points and things to consider as we look to make Turitea an even better place for our tamariki.
This week we welcomed a new staff member to our team – Mitzy. She is pictured below and is joining us as a teaching assistant and working in Mataī and Rimu supporting our learners. If you see her about the place, I’m sure you will all make her feel welcome.
Whānau Consult:
Next week is the last week for you to ‘Have Your Say’ for what the next three years looks like at Turitea School. This survey is available to fill out online or even book a time to pop in and have a chat with me face to face. Thank you to those of you who have already done this for us, I have enjoyed reading your views and suggestions. This voice will all feed into developing our Strategic Plan for 2024-2026.
Pae Tamariki:
Whaea Tūrehu has been working hard to get our tamariki ready for Pae Tamariki, which is a two day Kapa Haka showcase. Our whole school will be performing on stage on Monday 26th June from 12.10-12.30pm. It is at the Regent on Broadway and it is a gold coin donation for entry, we’d love to have you pop in and support us. We aim to put on a dress rehearsal for you first at school on Friday 23rd June in the evening along with a hangi for dinner. We are putting together the organization for this currently, so we are on the hunt for any donations of wood for the fire or any contacts for cheap meat or vegetables. Please get in touch with me if you know of any or don’t mind helping us out on the day in preparation for our hākari (feast).
Cross Country:
Tau ke koutou (Well done everyone) who participated in the Interschool or the Cluster Cross Country events we had this week. A special mention to those who did both, one after the other! We are still awaiting the official results, but aim to get these out to you when we have them.
Student Led Projects:
Next Friday 16th June, Harlow, Natalie and Te Aranga are hosting a fundraiser for the Central Energy Wildbase Recovery Centre. Some things that they will be selling are Playdough, Cookies, Lemonade and more. Alongside them, Harper, Olivia S & Hannah will be hosting a fundraiser for the Palmerston North SPCA.They will be doing a bake sale and will be selling Cupcakes and Fudge.The price range is $1-5 but coasters pictured below will be $10 each. Please send your child with some cash if they’d like to buy anything to support.
Parking:
As we have had a lot of new whānau join our school this term, I thought I’d remind everyone of the parking expectations. Directly outside the office, we have 4 parking spaces that are painted with yellow painted lines. These are designed to be ‘pick up and go’ parks for those in a hurry, not those who want to stay and play. You can let your child know to wait for you and sit on the seating under the tree directly next to these parks. Children shouldn’t be leaving the school grounds unless it is with an adult, especially our littlest ones.

We have an ever growing collection of lost property. Please have a look at it on pick up as we’d like to return it to its owners ASAP. Thanks to those of you who have sorted your finances on Hero. We would love to have all of the Term 2 activity fee paid by the end of term. We are sitting at just over half who have paid.
