End of Term 4 Week 4 Pānui

Kia ora e te whānau,

It’s been a funny old week with all our big kids away on their camp in Makahika this week. They came home yesterday with some amazing stories of having the best time and that’s what camp is all about. Lots of challenges faced and overcome, I am so proud of all of them! I was gutted to not make it down there as we have had a lot of teachers down to accommodate here. I’ll just have to listen to Cameron’s yarns about it all. LOL! Thanks again to our amazing parent helpers; Rusty, Rob, Robbie, Hayden, Jason, Brad, Tom and Julie. You guys were awesome!

Dates for 2023:

These were confirmed at our last Board of Trustees meeting and are on our school website. A reminder that our last day of the school year is Thursday 15th December and we finish at the earlier time of 12.30pm.

Term Start Date End Date
Term 1 Tuesday 31st January Thursday 6th April
Term 2 Monday 24th April Friday 30th June
Term 3 Monday 17th July Friday 22nd September
Term 4 Monday 9th October Friday 15th December

Fencing Work:

You may have noticed that the next part of the fencing project has started, hence the digger and security fencing on the field. They have made quick work of this and aim to have this part finished next week and then move on to cleaning and putting panels on the inside of our wooden fence to prevent climbability.

End of Year Events:

We are in the process of locking in times and dates for our end of year festivities like Year 6 Graduation and Prizegiving. As always, I will communicate these to you through the pānui, but just so you know, you can check any of these in the Hero app itself in the Events tab which is on the front page or check out the Events Calendar on our website.

NZEI Union Meetings:

Next week, the NZEI (Teachers Union) members have ‘stop work meetings’ to attend. You may have heard other schools in the region are forced to close early to accommodate these. Just a reminder that we will not be closing for these. Our amazing team here is staggering their meeting times to accommodate this.

Table Tennis Tournament:

Next week on Tuesday, 8 of our tuakana/senior students will compete in a Palmerston North Table Tennis Tournament. We wish Theo, Solomon, Callum, Khobe, Myah, Elisha, Cory and Izzy all the best for the day.

Monarchs of Aotearoa:

As mentioned last week, Aria in Matai’s mum, Erin is now a published author! You may have seen her amazing book Monarchs of Aotearoa. She is offering a PTA Book Fundraiser in which $4 from each book sale will be donated to the PTA. Book orders need to be placed by Friday 2nd December using the code “TURITEA” on her website.
