Tēnā koutou katoa (Hello everyone)
This past week, our hāpori (community) has shown incredible heart and compassion with the passing of one of our whānau members, Stephanie Greer. The aroha (love) and support that has poured in for her children Andre, Ava and their whānau has been a powerful reminder of our school uara (values) of whanaungatanga and manaakitanga in action. As you can see above, there was a beautiful send off for her on Tuesday. For those who have asked about making a koha (contribution) to help out with things, Stephanie’s brother, Jason Taiaroa has set up an account for them here: 03-0426-0004121-04. Ngā mihi.

Production Day is HERE! We can’t wait to share this with you all tonight. Hopefully you are well-read in ‘the goings on’ with this today. On Wednesday, Dani sent out a detailed Hero post which outlined many of the logistics of the day/afternoon/evening. Please remember that we are not returning to school this afternoon. All students will remain at the Speirs Centre at Boys High for both evening performances at 4:30pm and 6pm. Then you can collect them from the stage just after the second show ends at approx 7pm.

It’s lamb season and huge mihi (thanks) to the Ponsford whānau for letting some of our tamariki experience rural life by feeding these cuties as you can see. Freddie and Niko got a taste of how to care for Harvey and Lincoln’s lambs on Wednesday. Julie has previously sent out information in a Hero post dated 27th August about our upcoming Lamb, Calf and Pet Evening which is happening next term on Friday 17th October. Please look into this if your whānau would like to bring your animal to be part of this.
Thank you to those who voted in our Board of Trustees election which closed on Wednesday. We will let you all know the result of this by next Tuesday 16th September. Arohamai (sorry) for forgetting to inform you last Monday that we had a Massey Teacher, Matt Killsby-Halliday, start with us in Rātā, learning alongside Carly and our ākonga (learners) in there. He will be with us for the next 5 weeks on placement. He brings strengths in the performing arts space, so he has been put to good use already!

Next week is Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori and we will be celebrating this in much the same way that we did for Maths Week, where each day there will be different kaupapa (topic) from feelings to positive affirmations, colours to verbs. We will give out ‘Mīharo’ (Amazing) tickets to ākonga who put to use this daily Te Reo theme. We encourage you to join in at home or in your workplace with the 50 wero (challenges) that ReoMāori.co.nz has put out, since this year marks 50 years since its inception. We also have Cluster Kapa Haka/Ki-o-Rahi for our tuakana (seniors) next Thursday at Linton Camp School, as well at Ngā Taonga Tākaro (Traditional Māori Games) for our whole kura next Friday from 11am. Parents/Whānau are more than welcome to be part of this. Nau mai haere mai (Come along)
Whakawhetai ki a koutou (Thanks to):
- Brit Benseman from Mitre 10 Mega who donated paint for the top and sides of our pool to freshen it up, ready for the summer swimming season.
- Corrin Tasker who has donated One Term of Kids Martial Arts Classes at the Ashhurst Martial Arts Club for Term 4. If your child is interested, please email me. First in, first served.
- James Morris who donated us the rugby post covers that will keep our kids safe when playing.
- Our parent coaches/managers who have helped us out this season through our Term 3 codes.
- Our amazing PTA for agreeing to fund the conversion of our pool to a saltwater system at their recent hui (meeting) on Wednesday evening. This will give us gentler, safer and more pleasant swimming conditions by removing chlorine’s harshness and making the storage and dosage of chemicals a lot safer for our amazing pool parents.
