Kia ora e te whānau,
I can tell from how intuitive Hero is, that nearly a quarter of you are connected through the app. It tells me that two thirds of you have received and read communications from us too via email. So we are getting there. If you haven’t made the shift yet, it is pretty simple. Apple users click here or Android users click here to download the app. If you have any questions, come and ask us for help, that is what we are here for.
Learning Check In’s:
Mid year reports are one type of formal reporting we provide you with on your child and their learning progress and achievement. Reports shouldn’t be wordy and technical but occasionally they can be, so it is best practise to connect with the teacher after reading them. For some of you, these reports gave you exactly what you need and you are happy with where your child is at and you might not need to meet or you have met already. So we have opened up two afternoons on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th August from 3.15 – 5.30pm with each teacher. If those times don’t work for you, email the teachers for a time that suits you. Jonathan Giles, our resident IT guru, has created a funky system on our website to book these online.
Cluster Speech Finals:
Next Thursday 11th August at 9.30am we are hosting the Fitzherbert Cluster Speech Finals. This is where we have the best speakers in Year 4+ from Tokomaru, Linton Camp, Aokautere and Opiki present their speeches. We have our school speech finals on Monday to determine who advances to the Cluster finals.
Before/Afterschool Pickups:
If you are choosing to drop your kids off before 8.30am, please remind them that it is a sit and wait, not run around and play. We have had quite a bit of silly behaviour before the bell. Afterschool, remember you are allowed to come in and collect your kids. Some kids are running out the gate to meet their parents and we don’t want any accidents. Parking out the front is designed for quick pick ups too. Thanks for your support.
Mid Term Break:
This has been set for Monday 29th August since before I arrived. I am interested in whether you appreciate having this day off for your kids or not in 2023 and beyond, so please can you indicate to me via this survey. If you need childcare for the day, the YMCA offers it, see here for more information.
Board Nominations:
Nominations for this closed on Wednesday at noon and we had 7 outstanding parents who want to stand for the Turitea Board of Trustees. We will make some opportunities for you to get to know them better as you get your voting papers via email/post next week to cast your votes by the first week of September.
Absences:
Please remember to report any absences to us at the office. Using the Hero app is the best way to do this, but you can ring them on 06 354 8845 or email them to Julie at office@turitea.school.nz
Year 6 Transition to Intermediate School:
On Wednesday, our Year 6’s got their first taste of PNINS life and next Wednesday 10th August they are able to go with you for their open day at either 9.30am, 11.30am or 2pm. Please let Trish know if/when you are taking them. All dates are on the calendar (the website or the events tab in Hero) or check out the transition plan here. St. Peters College has their open night from 6.00 – 8.30pm next Thursday 11th August.
