End of Term 1 Week 2 Pānui

Kia ora e te whānau,

Why is it that when we have a short week at school, we try to fit more than a whole week’s worth of things into it? Needless to say, we are back in the swing of things at school. A special welcome to Esme and her whānau who are new to Turitea and started in Rimu with Meagan this week. This week on Tuesday, we had Natalie and Maureen from OfficeMax run our weekly Staff Hui. They put us through our paces and made us be learners too, getting us involved in a range of Art, STEM and Digital Learning opportunities. In true teacher fashion; things got competitive when we had to build the tallest structure out of straws to withstand an earthquake. Cameron and Trish were the worthy winners and in my meanderings around the school, I saw that Tōtara kids were doing the same challenge. I wonder who was the champ engineer in there?

Finances – Hero:

Thanks to those of you who have paid your school donations and activity fee already. We hope you found it easy to do through the Hero app if you chose that way. If you have signed up for sports teams, you will see the fee for that loaded there too next week. If you require a receipt, please reach out to Julie

Overnight Camp:

Great to see the hype building for this historic event at Turitea School that is next Friday 17th February. Remember to register your attendance by completing this form by this Sunday (no late entries sorry). Children and their whānau are welcome to arrive at school from 4pm next Friday to set up their camp. Parents need to stay on site too. Bring your tents for an awesome outdoor experience embracing our school value of whanaungatanga. If you don’t wish to stay overnight you are still welcome to attend the BBQ on Friday night and/or the breakfast on Saturday morning.

Monster Garage Sale:

Another massive event, that is all set for Saturday 18th March. Don’t forget to save your items (not clothes) for the white elephant stall. Feel free to ask friends and family if they have anything to donate. More information to come in future Pānui. The PTA are set to meet to discuss this and other things next Wednesday 15th February at 7pm in the staffroom. We would love to see some new members…

School Policies/Procedures:

We use School Docs for all our School Policies and Procedures. You can view them here by using turitea as the username and oldwestroad as the password. Our goal is to provide a safe and healthy environment for students, staff, and visitors and policies and procedures help to establish and maintain this. Our Community Conduct Policy is perhaps one of the most important policies there, as this outlines the expectations of how we expect everyone who enters our school to act. Please take the time to read this document.

Sport @ Turitea:

Dani is in the process of organising all the teams for our upcoming sports season. We are light on players for a lot of these codes and we can’t make a full team for some. We are hoping this is because these sports might class with other summer events or commitments on offer. Or perhaps you might want a light term of after school activities? Hopefully next term, our numbers rise and we get more kids playing school sports.

Triathlon Series:

The Palmy Kid’s Tri Series starts this coming Monday 13th February and runs weekly for 5 weeks. These events are aimed at children aged 4-12 years old. Check out the details in this flier
