End of Term 1 Pānui

Ngā mihi nui koutou,

We’ve made it to the end of term! What a term it has been too with not being able to do things how we usually would. The shift to Orange overnight means school life appears to be moving in the way of ‘normal’ again. We can’t wait to get back to having school singing and assemblies again embracing our school value of whanaungatanga by building those positive relationships. We will communicate the day and time with you next term if you’d like to join us.

Karen’s Last Day:

Today marks Karen’s last day for the year as she goes on leave for the rest of 2022. She will still be around z bit and will join our staff for our professional development, but is taking the time to spend with her whānau. Kate (kate.baillie@turitea.school.nz) who is known to all our tamariki will be replacing her in Pohutukawa.

Whānau Last Day:

Being such a tight knit team out here at Turitea, we feel it when whānau leaves us.Today marks the last day for Emily, Zachary, Peace-Marie and Ratu as they are moving out of our school zone. We wish them all the best at their new kura and hope their shift goes smoothly. You will be missed.

Covid Shift to Orange:

At Orange, face masks are no longer required at school. However, the Ministry of Health encourages face masks to continue to be worn by students and staff in Years 4 and above when indoors. Face masks are one of the key health measures that we can use to slow the spread of COVID-19 in indoor settings, so encourage you to do that if you come onsite. If COVID-19 is circulating widely in our community again, we may decide that masks are required indoors again for a period of time and I will communicate this with you. Any student or staff member who wishes to wear a face mask at Orange will be encouraged and supported to do so.

Learning Conferences:

We have 73 conferences booked for Wednesday 11th May which is half our school. School closes at 12.30pm that day. You can still book your 15 minute slot through the Skool Loop App in the Interviews Tab.

Word from the PTA:

A huge thanks for all the support of the raffle and another massive thanks to our sponsors again: New World Aokautere, Bijonei Hair Design, Centrepoint Theatre, Mānuka Wellbeing, AFC Motorcycles, Studio 31, JA Russell Ltd & Little Savannah. The wonderful Kim is crunching the numbers but we look to have made about $7200! We want to thank everyone for their support during this term. We are hopeful that some restrictions may ease to be able to host social events for the tamariki next term. The PTA will be hosting our AGM on Wednesday 18th May. We would love new members to join as we have some members stepping down from their roles and we encourage you to consider if you could give to the school in this way. We wish you all a safe and happy holiday, enjoy the whānau time and of course some chocolate! -Anna James.

Sport:

Registrations are still open for Term 2 Hockey until early next week. We desperately need a few more Year 5/6 players to get that team entered. We potentially could make two Year 3/4 teams if there are some more players in that age group too as the one team is looking a bit full.

EPro8:

The 8 EPro8 competitors have been selected ready for their first event at Whakarongo School next term on Wednesday 4th May. The EPro8 Challenge is an inter-school science and engineering competition. They participate in a series of events designed to promote science and engineering. All the best to you

Afterschool Sports Programme:

Next term, Craig from Kelly Sport wants to run an 8 week after school programme every Tuesday from 3.15 – 4.15pm focussing on a range of sports on our grounds. Click here for registration and more information.
