End of Week 2 Term 2 Pānui

Kia ora e te whānau,

Gosh what a beautiful week weather wise we have had up here. It’s like Turitea has its own little eco-climate! Perfect weather for our training for Cross Country coming up in Week 4. The kids train Monday, Wednesday and Friday and it is great to see them pushing themselves and improving their fitness. Thanks to those of you who came and met with your child’s kaiako on Wednesday/Thursday this week for Learning Conferences. We had over 120 conferences booked, which was pleasing to see. I’ve had plenty of positive feedback from parents about how much they enjoyed reconnecting and having their child take leadership in their learning. As always I’m interested in your feedback on these, so let me know if you have any thoughts via email.

SPCA Fundraiser:

Kiara, Maggie, Dana and Leah from Kauri led an amazing morning tea on Wednesday with their SPCA fundraiser. There was so much demand for the goodies they made and they raised a whopping $539. Excellent haututanga (leadership) girls.

Massive thanks to the PTA:

Hopefully you’ve noticed the shade sails have been replaced in the quad and they look amazing! The blue matches our school colour and also the shade sail over the sandpit. Great to support local and within our Turitea community by using Straitline Canvas who is owned by Mylo’s parents in Rātā.

Gate:

Just a reminder that our temporary gate is unlockable by adults. It is just there to keep our kids all in and safe. If your child arrives at school late and the gate is shut, you might need to come and help them open it and send them in via Julie’s window. We just ask that you close and lock it behind you and not leave it open before 3pm. We hope to have our fencing installed next week as we have been told that by the suppliers.

Eggs:
The Hercoe’s are back selling their lovely free range eggs. $7 per dozen (with a $1 going back to the school) These are available from Monday from the office via Julie. Support local.

Youthfest:

If you have no plans tomorrow, check out the Youthfest tomorrow at Railway Land from 10am-2pm.

Sports @ Turitea:

Sport is up and running and the children are very motivated. Basketball kicked off their season on Thursday night and Netball and Hockey teams begin this weekend. Our table tennis team will begin next Tuesday.

This week we have been super lucky to have Matt, Bryn and Kobe who are completing a sports pedagogy paper at Massey coming in to run some rugby sessions at lunch. This continues next week also.

Cross Country:
This is being held on Thursday 26th May. This will take place in two parts. In the morning there will be the optional cross country course on the farm for those that wish to do it. If children wish to represent at cluster or interschool they will need to run this event. Then later in the day there will be a fun run on the field that all students will participate in. Timing details for the day will be in next week’s Pānui. We require support to marshall both events. Please email anna.james@turitea.school.nz if you can support.

Chess Club
This is in operation and we had over 50 students sign up to be part of this. Trish is running this in Kauri class.
