Kia ora e te whānau,
With Troy away, I’ve been entrusted with writing this week’s pānui. What a perfect week to be asked as it means I get to share the special news of a new arrival, I’ll happily take this one Troy! I’m delighted to share that Cameron and Olivia have officially become parents after welcoming Fletcher Alastair Schaw into the world yesterday. Cameron has shared some beautiful photos with us and stated he is ‘just perfect’. A huge thanks to Trish who stepped into Pōhutukawa this week and we look forward to welcoming Carwyn on Monday for the next three weeks whilst Cameron adjusts to sleepless nights and discovers that ‘sleeping like a baby’ is one of life’s greatest myths. Nau mai e te pēpi ki te ao mārama, welcome to the world little one.

Nau mai Haere mai (Welcome) to Hanke and the Nieuwoudt whānau who are new to our kura and have joined us in Kauri this week.
Today Carly took Baxter, Kyerin, Evander, Jacob, Logan, Quinn, both Lachie’s, Daniel and Amelia to the Cluster Chess competition at Ōpiki School. Although we are still waiting on the final results to come through, it looks as though our tamariki have had a great day. We look forward to hearing how they all went.

Yesterday, Anneliese took Kyerin, Emelie, Maya and Makayla to the Junior World Vision Leadership Conference in Wellington where they learnt about global inequality, leadership, and heard from a range of guest speakers. These students showed incredible courage by volunteering to present a pitch at the end of the day about why people should care about these issues. They had just 10 minutes to prepare, 3 minutes to practise, and then spoke in front of over 100 students and teachers. Even more impressively, they were the only primary school students to get up and speak. We are looking forward to seeing this learning in action across our kura. Watch their pitch here.
Our Cross Country training has continued throughout the week. Thanks to Fraser and the Ponsford whānau for allowing us to progress from road training to paddock training. This has been a beautiful opportunity for our tamariki to demonstrate their whanaungatanga as this is a first experience for many of our juniors. Check out the video from earlier in the week here.
The opportunities for whanaungatanga have been plentiful this week as the Seniors started their Lunchtime Clubs. From drawing and Jump Jam through to K-Nex and board games, the clubs have been buzzing with energy and enthusiasm and will continue throughout the term.

Today our Kauri tamariki began their Garden to Table sessions. We are so grateful to Meryl and Kirstin for the time and effort they put into this learning and we are very lucky that our tamariki are given the opportunity to experience this process. As you can see in the photo, on the menu today was vegetable soup. If you are ever able to help with these weekly sessions, please do let Meryl know.
Unfortunately, we are entering the time of year when bugs begin to do the rounds. This is a friendly reminder to encourage proper handwashing. If your child is unwell, please follow our school policies to help keep everyone safe and healthy.

Turitea School Merch:
Last week our ‘Turitea Merch’ orders went live, which now include T-Shirts, Crew Neck Sweaters and as always, the staple Hoodie. We also have two new designs on the production line this year.
- Kids OG Hoodies $49 (Old front print design only)
- Kids New Hoodies $58 (New front and back prints)
- Kids New Crew Neck Sweatshirts $55 (New front and back prints)
- Kids New T-Shirts $30 (New front and back prints)
Check out the poster above and place your orders here before next Friday 15th May. If any adults want to ‘rock the merch’ too then add $4 to the price of the kids merch. We are giving these to you at cost pricing as the school makes no money on selling these, we just love seeing our whānau ‘repping the brand!’
