End of Term 1 Pānui

Kia ora e te whānau,

And just like that, we have nearly finished Term 1! This week we welcomed Patrick to Rimu, who finally joins his big sister Quinn at school. Unfortunately this afternoon we farewell Angus and Penny as they are returning home to Dunedin. We know they will be sorely missed by their friends here and the PTA appreciated all the mahi you’ve helped with Sonia. Safe travels to you and Shanon!

Learner Conferences:

We have locked these in for Thursday 27th April from 3.15 – 5.45pm and Thursday 4th May from 2.15 – 7.30pm. School will finish early on the second Thursday, but we can supervise any kids in the playground who are unable to be picked up until 3pm. You can book these through Hero in the School Bookings tab. You should receive a notification when this opens prompting you to book a time. Please note that the system only allows for one booking per child. These are designed to bring your child along to reconnect with the classroom teacher and talk about any assessments conducted, goal setting and aspirations you might have.

Manawatū Striders Road Race:

Huge congratulations to our team above of Grace, Natalie, Juliette, Asher and Richie who represented Turitea School at the Year 5/6 Road Race on Tuesday. Our Year 5/6 girls team came an impressive 3rd overall out of all the schools who competed – Tumeke! (awesome)

Mihi Whakatau next term:

On our first day back next term, we will be having a mihi whakatau (welcome) for Hannah, our lovely new kaiako joining our school and the new students who have started with us this past term. All are welcome to attend and we will look to start just after 9am. We have a Teacher Only Day on Monday 24th April and then Anzac Day on Tuesday 25th April, so our first day of Term 2 for all students is Wednesday 26th April.

Activity Fee:

Please note these are almost overdue for Term 1. Please check the Hero Finances tab to arrange payment. Thanks to those of you who have sorted this already or paid the whole year in one hit. This covers trips, buses, performers, sports programmes etc that our tamariki are engaged in each term.

Farewell to Geoff Franks:

Today marks Geoff’s last day as tumuaki at Linton Camp School. He is retiring from many years in education and principalship. Matt Costley, who comes from Kopane School takes over from him in Term 2. Linton Camp is one of the five schools in our Fitzherbert Cluster, so we have a bit to do with them.

Lost Property:

We have quite a growing collection of lost property, please could you have a look if you are in this afternoon as we’d love to return the items to their owner, otherwise we will package them up for goodwill.

Swimming Pool Closes:

Thank you to those who have returned their pool keys already. If you could please arrange to return these to the office this afternoon, we would appreciate this.

Yummy Hot Cross Buns:

We sold 175 packets of Hot Cross Buns, so that’s a nice little kickback for the PTA. Thanks again for supporting this fundraiser.

Kelly Sports Afterschool Programme:

Craig and his team are looking to continue this next term again on a Tuesday afternoon. More information found here and you can book online here
