Ahiahi mārie ki a koutou (Good afternoon everyone),
“Ko au, ko koe, ko ia – tātou katoa.” This whakataukī (proverb) translates to mean ‘Me, you, him/her – We are all in this together.’ I felt this speaks to the heart of who we are as a hāpori (community) at Turitea, and it was lived out in the most meaningful way during our visits to Te Ahu a Tūranga Marae this week. As our tamariki were welcomed onto this sacred space in Woodville, it allowed them to deepen their turangawaewae (sense of belonging), honor local tikanga (customs), and they got a taste of ‘marae life’ which embodies all four of our Ngā Uara o Te Kura (Our School Values) in everyday life. Mihi atu (Thank you) to Ruth, Nix, Keshaan and Tamai for providing such a safe, welcoming and memorable environment for us all.

This morning, Baxter, Ben, Evander, Kyerin, Mackenzie, Matthew, Munroe, and Van went to the Manawatū Mathex competition at the Awapuni Racecourse. A really nice way to wrap up ‘Maths Week’ which has been a big hit, with so much engagement in pāngarau (maths) in and out of school. Thank you to those whānau who got involved in the daily wero (challenges) that our Hannah and Carly put together for us.

Arohamai (Sorry) to the Morris whānau as I forgot to mention last pānui that Millie started in Rimu with Anna and Lynley. She is the younger sibling of Joe and Liam, so the last in their whānau to attend Turitea. Nau mai haere mai Millie.
Hui Ā Kura:
This afternoon’s assembly was led by our tuakana (seniors) Rory, Mackenzie and Ayla. Mihi atu (thank you) to those who came along to watch. Congratulations to those who received a tiwhikete (certificate)

Poetry in Kauri:
Our budding poets from Kauri have been at it again for the monthly Poetry Box Winter Challenge. Four entries were submitted by Faye from Freddie, Hanke, James and Zali, which you can see above. Kei reira (Awesome work) James for being chosen for publication on their website and winning a book for his efforts.
Massey Kids Club Pick Ups:
You may have noticed this week, Massey Kids Club have made some changes to their after school pick up. They will arrive before 3pm and wait in the yellow striped area in front of our gate to collect those who use the service. The aim is tamariki will line up at the office porch to be collected as soon as they are released from class at the end of the day. This allows them to pick up and go promptly to reach the next school.
Pick Up/Drop Off:
We have a growing number of students who are arriving at school before 8am and are still at school after 3.30pm unsupervised. Please read our information about this on our website (scroll down to the bottom).
-Morning Drop-Off: If teachers are on site, students wait quietly in the quad from 8am if parents have work.
-Afternoon Pick-Up: Whānau are asked to collect children at 3pm or 3.15pm; any uncollected students must wait on the office porch when the music signals at 3.15pm on Wednesdays or 3.30pm on other days.
Looking Ahead to 2027:
It might seem too early to be doing this, but we are heading into the months where we have to consider projections for next year. If you have a younger child at home that turns five next year, please fill out our pre enrollment form so we know how many spaces we can offer in our ballot for 2027 spaces.
From the PTA:
- Thanks to Anna for her help in running our Bright Colours Disco last Friday evening. It was an amazing event with lots of awesome costumes and we raised $450 selling kai and glowsticks.
- Travel back in time for our Decades Quiz Night on Saturday 19th September at 6.30pm at school. Assemble a team of up to 8 for $100 and join us for a fun night featuring a live auction, bar, provided snacks, and prizes for best dressed. Scan the QR code on the poster above to sign your team up.
- Our next fundraiser starts in Week 7 and we are asking each whānau to sell one box of Whittakers Chocolate (36 bars) at $3 per bar, totaling $108 per box. For every box sold, we raise just over $40 which proceeds will go towards the swings in our playground. Each fundraising pack contains 12 bars each of Creamy Milk and 6 each of Coconut, Hokey Pokey, Peanut and Almond Gold.
