Mōrena e te whānau, (Good morning everyone)
I am getting in to you all nice and early today as we are about to head off to Linton Camp Cultural Centre with our Year 5/6 ākonga (students) for our Fitzherbert Cluster Kapa Haka showcase. After that we will make our way to Linton Camp School for our Cluster Ki o Rahi competition too. A great way to mark the end of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) which has been a huge hit at Turitea School! We have been super proud of everyone for ‘Giving Te Reo a Try’ as every day they have been learning a kaupapa o te rā (theme of the day)

As you might have seen here, also every day we participated in Ngā Ahiahi Tākaro Māori (Māori Games Afternoon) before having our Mīharo tīkiti (Amazing Ticket) draw, where we drew names out of the kete (basket) of those who used te Reo around our kura to win a prize. Mihi atu (Thanks) to Whaea Anneliese for her leadership in this space and our kaimahi (staff) who have really got involved this week.
Last week I let you all know of the success of many ex-Turitea students who competed in the annual AIMS games tournament. I learnt after posting that Finn was part of the team who won silver in Hockey and Xavier and Kazuri won silver in the Mixed Doubles for Table Tennis. Ka rawe koutou!
Seedling Sale NEXT WEEK:
Meryl has made you a challenge for the weekend to go and have a look at your garden. What needs doing? Maybe the weeds have taken over or maybe there’s a garden bed hiding under a jungle? Well, this is your sign to give it a tidy-up this weekend and make space for something new. We’ll have plenty of herbs and other plants available at our Seedling Sale next week. We’ve also got plants being generously donated by Mitre 10, so you never know what you might find. And best of all, every plant you buy is helping support our Garden to Table programme! So get digging this weekend, and we’ll see you after school.
Lamb, Calf & Pet Day:
As you know, our annual Lamb, Calf and Pet Day is coming up on Friday 23 October from 4pm. It is a bit of a tradition here at Turitea, and we want this year’s event to be another success! However, our entry numbers are looking a little low, and we really want to ensure we have a proper competition for all the tamariki who have already signed up. Whether it’s a dog, cat, rabbit, turtle, parrot or guinea pig, we would love to see more animals. It’s always such an awesome evening. Submit entries via the form before the end of term.
Turitea Merch Run:
We have reached the 20 items required for our latest Merch Run so this is all go! If you have made an order through the form, then Julie will add this to your Hero account to pay. If you chose to pay directly into the School Bank Account (Turitea School Board of Trustees 03 0726 0572091 00) then you can do so now. You can still order now, but they close the last day of term next Friday, so don’t miss out, order here now!
School Photos:
Early next term we have Sarah from Clicks Photography coming in to take our class and individual photos on Tuesday 13th October. This is the second day of the new term, so we are trying to give plenty of notice.
Kelly Sport for Term 4:
Have their onsite afterschool sports clinics on a Thursday for those in Year 0-3. If they get ten tamariki booked in, they’ll randomly draw one child who will receive either a full refund or a credit for next year. You can sign up here. They will also be doing a taster for all students in those year levels early next term.

Thanks again for your support with the Whittakers Chocolate Fundraiser. We are short just over ten boxes of chocolates from our whānau, so if you have one at home, please send it into the office ASAP. Congratulations to Ella and Jackson who were our top sellers of more than six boxes each!
