End of Term 3 Pānui

Ngā mihi mahana ki a koutou, (Warm greetings to you all)

And just like that we have hit the end of another term which we packed a lot into including; Pae Tamariki, Marae Visit, Te Manawa Visit, Cluster Speech Competition, DanceNZmade, Rippa Rugby Sessions, Maths Week, Book Week, Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, Cluster Kapa Haka and Ki o Rahi… phew! Then to add to this list, on Tuesday we took two teams of Aerlene, Rory, Lincoln and Kyerin and Jackson, Baxter, Joe and Leo to the Regional EPro8 Competition at College Street School. We came into this event defending champions, so we were looking to back up our title. We were met with tough competition, but both groups made really cool Mario Karts, with built in banana skin droppers. It was an impressive showing!

On Monday, we welcomed Lexus, who joined us from Mountview School in Taupō. She has joined Whaea Anneliese and the ākonga (learners) in Totarā. Nau mai haere mai (welcome) Lexus. Sadly, yesterday we said goodbye to Lynley, who we have loved having teach two days a week in Rimu. She won a full time teaching position at One School Global starting next term. Thank you for your passion and being such a great fit for us. We hope this won’t be farewell, but more ‘Mā te wā’ or see you again.

Across Aotearoa, our Ministry of Education (MoE) requires all schools to maintain an Attendance Management Plan with a national target of at least 80% of ākonga attending school more than 90% of the time. This term, 53% of our tamariki achieved that regular attendance threshold. While seasonal winter bugs and illnesses meant we missed the benchmark this term, every day of learning counts, and we are committed to supporting our school community to get our numbers back up. As part of our official attendance plan requirements, if your child’s attendance has dropped below 90%, you will receive an automated notification through Hero, please know this isn’t us “growling” you, but rather a friendly “just so you’re aware” update to keep you informed so we can work together to support your child’s learning.

Earlier in the week you might have seen we have published a job for a new teacher for 2027. Help us if you know any amazing teachers by letting them know about it. We aren’t losing anyone, we are just having a reshuffle of some positions which we can share with you all early next term, when they are finalised. 

Next term Karen is rejoining us for three afternoons a week. Most of you will remember her as she was a teacher here for nine years before having a break at the end of last year. She will be starting a Maths Intervention and a Writing Intervention group for Term 4. We look forward to having her back with us.
