Tēnā koutou katoa, (Hello Everyone)
I am writing this pānui to you from Wellington, as Anna and I are down here attending the annual Te Akapūmau Summit with a focus on ‘Re-Righting’ Education for the Future of Aotearoa.
Last week I shared with you that we have joined the Warmth for Waste project where we collect foil chip packets and turn them into emergency blankets. Leo and Van made a video to teach everyone about what to do here. Please send your packets from home with your tamariki to pop them in our Big Blue Bin.
Yesterday was a day of sport for some of our tuakana (senior students) as they had Amon from Manawatū Rugby take them for Rippa Rugby sessions in preparation for an interschool tournament happening next term. Then in the afternoon, they had Pā Chris and Pā Jaydn from Whakapai Hauora come and fine tune their Ki-o-Rahi skills for our cluster competition in Week 9.
Tuesday saw Rātā and Rimu tamariki stepping back in time to explore Te Manawa’s Destination 1900 exhibit. They had a fantastic morning filled with hands-on learning, showing everyone what life was really like for students over a century ago. Thanks to our amazing parent helpers that came along.
This week, Dani and Carly have been putting our DanceNZmade stars through their paces getting ready for their big event next Tuesday. Mihi atu (Thank you) to Lucy and Helena, who are Year 13 Students from Freyberg High School that have been helping out with their weekly Friday training sessions.
Lamb, Calf & Pet Day:
Our annual Lamb, Calf & Pet Day is on Friday 23 October from 4pm. Students are encouraged to raise a lamb/calf or bring a pet they care for. Submit entries by the end of term using the form here. All families are invited to join us to explore classroom exhibits and enjoy the courtyard food trucks!
Winter Bugs:
These continue to do the rounds with many of our tamariki affected by cold and flu season and now Chickenpox. As expected, our attendance data for this term is much lower than last term. Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery for everyone so we can get back to having our classrooms full again soon.
Out-of-Zone Ballot for 2027:
Our final ballot of the year closes next Wednesday, you might have seen the post here with the poster above. If you know of anyone looking, let them know about us. We’d love to welcome new families into our vibrant, supportive community where every child is encouraged to thrive. Spread the word and help us grow our school whānau!
Sports in Term 4:
Dani posted information about our Term 4 sports on offer with Soccer, Hockey, Touch Rugby and Netball (this term) available for our kids. Do check those out and a massive thanks to all our coaches of these teams. Sports wouldn’t happen without you!
From the PTA:
- Ngā mihi (Thanks) to everyone who has jumped in to support our PTA Chocolate Fundraiser. Some people have already sold multiple boxes, so we’ve decided to turn this into a friendly competition. The whānau who sells the most boxes by the end of the fundraiser will take home a $50 Prezzy Card! If you are having trouble selling your box, send it back to us as someone else will.
- Our Decades Quiz Night on Saturday 19th September is fast approaching, but right now, the competition is looking a little ‘intimate’ to say the least, so we need a few more teams. Assemble your team of up to 8 for $100 by signing up here. Don’t miss a great night out.
