Kia ora e te whānau,
Hoping this finds you all doing very well. This is your final friendly reminder that school closes at 12.30pm this coming Wednesday 11th May for our Learning Conferences. We are looking forward to having you back on site as they are a great way to reconnect with your child’s kaiako and set some goals/outcomes for the rest of the term. We have 104 conferences booked so far, but you can still book your 15 minute slot through the Skool Loop App in the Interviews Tab if you haven’t done so already. We’d love to see you!
New Staff:
Not very often a little school like ours welcomes 3 new staff members in one week! It is nice to have Aimi Morris start as a Teaching Assistant in Rimu, Anna James as our Sports Coordinator/ PE Teacher and Chris Ricketts our new Thursday release teacher in Kauri for Trish.
After School Pick Up:
With the shift to Orange, this brings about a change on how pick up will work. Next week, feel free to come on site just before 3pm and wait for your child in the quad area. You are more than welcome to take them from there and go, however a child MUST leave with an adult. The rest of the school are free to play in the top playground or court area. (Not the bottom playground or field) Come and collect them from there when you arrive. I will be out there every afternoon to help you wrangle those hard to find ones!
Te Ao Māori:
We are looking forward to welcoming Pay Ra back into school to continue his mahi with us. Our marae visit is locked in: Thursday 16th June for Matai, Totara and Kauri with the overnight stay for the Year 5/6 students. Students in Rimu, Manuka, Rātā and Pohutukawa will visit on Friday 17th June. You are all invited to the Marae on Thursday evening for our whole school Matariki Celebration including Pōwhiri, Hangi, Purakau (Stories) and Waiata (Songs). More information to come, but please lock these dates in your calendar. If you have any contacts that might like to help with this (e.g. meat, vegetables, storytellers etc) please get in touch.
SPCA Fundraiser:
Kiara, Maggie, Dana and Leah from Kauri are all super passionate about animals so have shown some leadership skills and want to run a fundraiser next Wednesday 11th May at morning tea. Any donations of old animal toys, towels, blankets or money will help the cause. They’ve created a flyer which has more information, they set up a Give a Little Page and even made a Promo Vid here. Help the girls out if you can!
School Donations/Activity Fee/Stationary:
Thanks to those who have paid these already. If you require a receipt for payment, please email Julie and she will fix you up. Although the first payment is a voluntary donation which provides more resourcing for our school to make it even better, the other two payments are required please.
Graduation:
Our lovely Anneliese should have had her Graduation on Wednesday, but unfortunately Massey made the tough call to postpone it. We will celebrate with her later on in the year. We are all proud of you Anneliese!
EPro8:
Our two EPro8 teams had their first hit out at Whakarongo School on Wednesday. One teams achieved 5th overall place which was pleasing to see. Check out the pic of the crew on the front page of the website.
Scholastic Book Orders:
These went home this week. Orders are due back next Wednesday 11th May or you can always order online or through the Loop App.

Cross Country:
This is on Thursday 26th May. This will take place in two parts. In the morning there will be the optional Cross Country course on the farm for those that wish to run it. If children wish to represent Turitea at Cluster or Interschool they will need to run this event. Later in the day there will be a fun run on the field that all students will participate in. We welcome you to come along and run too or just cheer on the kids!
Afterschool Sports Programme:
Craig from Kelly Sport still has a few spaces available in the 8 week after school programme every Tuesday from 3.15 – 4.15pm focussing on a range of sports on our grounds. Click here for more information.
Have a fab weekend and see you next week.
