Tēnā koutou katoa,
I’m getting in to you a little bit earlier today as this afternoon, Anna and myself are off to our MPA (Manawatū Principals Association) ‘Mana in the Manawatū’ event where we go on a tour to three local schools (Winchester, Ross Intermediate and Terrace End) to see all the amazing things they are doing. We look forward to ‘borrowing’ some of their great ideas to bring back to Turitea.

Tomorrow is our General Election and hopefully you will come and vote here at school. Cameron will be our voting place officer, so that may entice you? Many classes have been learning about parliament, electorates, policies and everything in between. You might have seen that on Wednesday, Jessica ran a mock election with our tuakana (senior) classes. The votes were tallied and if it were up to our tamariki, we would have a Green Party led government as they received 31.5% of the kids votes. Check out the full results here.

On Wednesday, our Year 5 ākonga (learners) took part in the PIRLS (Progress in International Reading Literacy Study) reading assessment. This is a worldwide study that rolls around every five years to see how Year 5 tamariki are tracking with their reading and Turitea was selected to be one of the schools representing Aotearoa New Zealand! They mostly all enjoyed the testing too, which made me happy to hear!
On Tuesday, our Year 6’s who are attending PNINS next year were invited to watch their Alison in Wonderland production, which came back with many 5 star reviews! Thanks to those who supported our latest Merch Run that we offered last term. Your child should have brought these home on Monday if you ordered something. We love seeing our tamariki rocking the ‘brand’ so appreciate your support.
Big mihi (thanks) to Anna who has scanned every child’s artwork and sent it off to the team at the Online Printer. You should all receive instructions early next week via the email address you have given us here at school. (Please let us know ASAP if this has changed). Here you will be able to see what their artwork looks like on a range of products, similar to how you saw your child’s class and individual photos recently.

Our Swings were installed over the weekend, with the concrete poured on Monday morning with many excited onlookers. We have to let the concrete cure until later next week and then our installer Rodney will come back to hang the swings and basket and they will be ready for action.

Juicies Next Week:
With the warmer weather this week, lunchtime juicies have been a huge hit. Whaea Anneliese had to go out on the second day of selling them to get more stock for the freezer! Remember they are for sale on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for $2 each or get a Juicy Pass for $10, which gets you 6 juicies.
Ode To Spring:
Head along to Catie and Lachie’s Aunties Market tomorrow Saturday 7th November from 11am – 5pm (ish) for their special Ode to Spring event. It promises to be a wonderful community outing featuring fantastic local stalls and crafts for the whole family to enjoy. Donation on entry.
