Ngā mihi maioha ki a koutou, (Warmest greetings to you all)
Monday marked the first day for Emelie who joined Whaea Anneliese and the ākonga (students) in Tōtara. Her and her whānau have joined us from Dannevirke. Nau mai haere mai (Welcome to you) Emelie!
We had an absolute cracker of a day on Tuesday with Ariki, Marnie, Lachie, Archer, Evie, Eddie, Lachie, Matthew, Caleb, Kaia, Joe, Rory, Oliver and Jackson taking part in the Weetbix Tryathlon. Thanks to the parents/whānau who came and supported them. Here is a quick reel that we made to celebrate the day.

Yesterday, we took our Year 6 students to Cluster Careers Day at Tokomaru School. Our ākonga (students) heard from people in the field of farming, technology, hospitality, finance, aviation, healthcare, engineering, construction and the military to give them exposure to careers they might consider one day. You might have seen the reel we shared on Facebook. Mihi atu (Thanks) Mel and Roxanne from Tokomaru School for organising this awesome day for us.
Kōrero Mai Next Week:
The bookings are still open for Kōrero Mai (Learning Conferences) through Hero next week, where you can book in a 15 minute timeslot to meet with your child’s kaiako (teacher). This is next Wednesday 25th March from 1-8pm. Don’t worry, we are not closing the school early! These conferences can include your child, if you wish, but your feedback suggested some prefer one-on-one sessions with the teacher.
Scholastic Book Fair:
Next week we are having the Scholastic Book Fair from Wednesday-Friday. We realise this is a bit ‘last minute’ but thought with a lot of you coming in for Kōrero Mai, it would be a good opportunity to bring the Book Club to our kids, as opposed to the pamphlet that comes home. We are grateful for Julie, who will be running this in Tāne Mahuta (our Hall). It will be open for sales from 3 – 6pm on Wednesday, 8.30 – 9am and 3 – 3.30pm on Thursday/Friday.

Ngā Whakanui Ākonga (Student Celebrations):
Last weekend, Ayla, Mila and Makayla competed in the Manawatū/Whanganui Athletics Championships, as seen above. Ayla came 1st in Hurdles and Discus, 1st = in High Jump, 2nd in 100m sprint and 3rd in Long Jump. Mila came 1st place in 60m sprint and Long Jump, 2nd place in 100m sprint, 200m sprint and 50m hurdles. Makayla came 1st place in the 1200m walk. Whakamihi nui ki a koutou (Congratulations to you all).
Pictured below, Charlie is working hard to gain his bronze library certificate and made an awesome poster about how to look after books. Ka pai tō mahi (Great work) Charlie!

Year 5/6 Bike Safety:
Next week, Erin and the team from Sport Manawatū are coming from Wednesday-Friday. If your child is in Year 5, please can you send them with their bike on Wednesday. If they are a Year 6, they will need it on either Thursday or Friday, depending on their group (this was sent in Hero yesterday). If you can’t get a bike to school, let us know in advance, so we can arrange one for your child.
Wheelie Competition:
Kyerin, Rory and Ihaia made a cool video to promote our Wheelie Competition next Wednesday 1st April. All children are welcome to take part if they bring their bike and helmet. It will run at lunchtime on the field.

Kim the Fundraiser:
We use a man named Kim, who works with schools and applies on behalf of them to charitable organisations to gain community grants. Over the past 3 years, he has helped us generate funds for our boardwalk, microforest, bike track and shade sail projects. He is looking for someone to ‘pass the baton’ onto and we wondered if there was someone in our community who might like to learn more about the process. If this interests you, please reach out to me to find out more.
EzLunch Promo:
Ezlunch is running an Easter promotion. Every lunch order placed between now and the end of term goes into a draw to win Kindo credit of up to $100! You just order Ezlunch as usual and you’re in the draw. Winners announced in Term 2.
