And just like that has brought about the end of another awesome term. I was blown away with our turnout and support for our Matariki event last Friday at school. As I sat on the floor in Tane Mahuta eating our delicious hangi talking with Whaea Tūrehu, both reflecting on what a special place this is and the amazing supportive community we have here at Turitea. As I mentioned on the night, I was beyond proud of our kids on the night and then they stepped it up another level on stage on Monday at Pae Tamariki! Thank you to those of you who came and supported us. The feedback I received regarding their performance was humbling. The whakataukī “E hara taku toa i te toa takitahi, he toa takitini – Our strength is not as an individual, but as a collective” echoes really loud here. Yesterday our SPCA crew of Hannah, Harper and Olivia (pictured below) took their donation of $312 from their cupcake day fundraiser and personally delivered it to the team at the Palmy SPCA. They loved being able to support the cause (as well as play with the kittens) Thanks again for your support with this a few weeks back.
Mid Year Reports and Learning Conferences:
These go live on Hero as a notification today. It can be also found by clicking on your child’s face on the home screen and scrolling down. Please read the following document that explains our purpose of reports and the potential changes that will occur in future. If your child is in Rimu, they will bring home a paper report which will look different to the Hero reports. Learning Conferences will be open today to book in through Hero and will take place in the first and second week back next term. The dates for these are Thursday 20th July from 3.15pm – 5.30pm. The following week on Thursday 27th of July we will start the conferences at 1pm and go through until 7.30pm. Just like last time, if you are able to pick up your child at 1pm on Thursday 27th July, we’d appreciate it. If you can’t, then they can hang out with Faye, Kirstin, Aimi and myself until you can come. **Please note if your child is in Rātā, Anneliese cannot do conferences on Thursday 20th and will instead do them Thursday 3rd August at the same time**
DanceNZmade:
I understand there has been some trouble getting signed up for DanceNZMade online and Julie has decided to make a ‘walkthrough’ for you to help.
-Click on the link and this will bring you to the DanceNZMade homepage which looks like a mobile phone,
-Sign up using a Google account or an email address which you will be sent a code to type in,
-From there, press Entry (bottom middle button in toolbar) and then Dance Development Registration,
-Then choose the location Palmerston North 4th September and then click Registered Dancer $25,
-Then fill out your details and then give permission and then hit submit.
Practices will take place at school during lunchtimes next term. Please register and pay for your child online (don’t pay the school) by Monday 17th July.
Colour Run:
We are hopeful the weather holds off for us to do our Colour Run this afternoon. Thanks to the teachers for organising what we hope will be an awesome event and a great way to finish our term. Feel free to come on down at 2pm and throw some colour at us!
Sports News:
Congratulations to the Turitea Table Titans pictured below of Henry, Blake and Xavier for placing 2nd in the Table Tennis Manawatū Primary School Teams League B Grade. In addition, Henry also placed 2nd overall for best individual B grade player. Ka rawe mahi (Awesome work) All three proudly represented our school and showed manaakitanga to other players and officials. Thanks to the parents coming down each week to support their tamariki.

- Linton Army Camp is running a Matariki event on Thursday 6th July. See here for more information. All are welcome to attend and learn about this event.
- Celebrate the Māori New Year on Friday 14th July from 3 -7pm and learn about Puanga. It is at CET Arena’s Pit Lane. It is a family-friendly festival that will include kapa haka, musical performances, food and retail stalls and activities and a spectacular LED lighting display.
- For our Year 6s moving on to intermediate at the end of the year:
- Longburn Adventist College (LAC) has their open day on Wednesday 26th July. Day tours at 9:30am, 11:30am & 12:30pm. Evening programme from 6.00pm – 7:30pm.
- Palmerston North Intermediate Normal (PNINS) has their open day on Tuesday 1st August. Day tours are at 9.30am, 11.30am & 2pm. Their schedule of dates is here.
- St Peter’s College open evening is Thursday 10th August from 6-8pm in the school gym. Their prospectus is housed in our office if you are interested in looking at it.
- Monrad Tirohanga Intermediate has their open evening on Thursday 18th August from 6-8pm. Their prospectus is found online here
A reminder to save the evening of Wednesday 13th September as this will be the date of our School Production at the Regent. It will tell the Turitea School pūrākau (story) from 1895 through to today then on to the future. It will be pretty special and we can’t wait to share it with you…
