Kia ora e te whānau,
Wow, the buzz is here today at kura today, I can tell you! There really is a great ora/vibe around the school as the tamariki are completing their creations or decorating their gingerbread men. I was showing a new family around this morning right in the thick of everyone doing this. I had to explain to them that everyday didn’t look like this, however they were really impressed to see and hear that this goes on in our school. It certainly is the ‘bread and butter’ of rural schools around the country.
It is with sad news that I have to let you know that Anna James has finished her time with us as our sport coordinator and PE teacher. I’m sure you can all appreciate the outstanding job that Anna has done in organizing school events and our out of school sport teams that she sorts out. The growth of sport at Turitea has been massive since she took on this mantle and we want to continue this growth. We are still to find a replacement, so Julie and I will manage any queries you may have about sport, just flick us an email.

Senior Cluster Athletics:
Yesterday our Year 4-6 students went to Massey Athletics Track for Cluster Athletics Day. The weather couldn’t make its mind up and went through nearly four seasons in one day. Luckily the Team at Aokautere who ran the event held strong and didn’t cancel and it ended up being a fantastic day. Ka pai Team Turitea!
True Hoops:
On Wednesday we started the True Hoops Basketball Programme with Coach Miles. He comes every Wednesday for the rest of the year and works on Fundamental Ball Skills, Balance and Fitness with all our tamariki. He is also a certified jokester and the kids love his lighthearted approach.

Yesterday was the nationwide NZ Shakeout earthquake drill and Matai got involved in the simulation drill that they provide. Have a watch here to see how ‘earthquake ready’ they all were.
