End of Week 3 Term 2 Pānui

Kia ora e te whānau,

Wow what a change in weather since the last time I wrote to you all. We have been hit with plenty of rain out here meaning that our kids haven’t always been able to get outside during break times. But they breed them tough in the country right? So as I have communicated to you, we encourage ‘Rainy Day Play’ as long as kids have a change of clothes and a waterproof jacket, so they aren’t in wet clothes for the rest of the day.

Cross Country:

Some of you may be curious as to the ‘why’ behind running two events and having the ‘competitive race’ being optional for our students. Cross Country can be some kids best day of the year if they love running and for others it is the worst! It can become an event that publicly ranks one’s physical ability. Kids are at different levels for maths or reading and they are for physical education too. We certainly don’t get kids to line up in order of their test results, so why were we doing this for physical education? Our job at school is to encourage and promote physical activity amongst our tamariki and we feel having the ‘fun run’ is the perfect opportunity to celebrate that next Thursday. Cross Country Times: 9:45am –Year 5/6. 10:10am –Year 3/4. 10:30am –Year 1/2. Fun Run Times: 1.40pm-2pm: Kauri, Mānuka & Rimu. 2.05pm – 2.25pm: Totara & Pohutukawa. 2.30pm – 2.50pm: Matai & Rātā. (Please note, these times are a guide only) We still need support with both events and parents can take part in the fun run too. Please email Anna if you can help.

Education Outside the Classroom:

Now that we have moved out of Red level, we are able to make plans to get out of the school setting to engage in learning beyond the four walls of the classroom. The first being our Marae visit on the 13th/14th June. We have created a form that we ask you to please complete to give us permission to take your child on these excursions within the Palmerston North boundary. The link to this will be emailed to you also.

From the PTA:

The PTA Pool Party is all locked on for Saturday 11th June at the Freyberg Pool. All are welcome. More information to come. We had our AGM on Wednesday evening and elected a new Chairperson. Thanks to Jo Perry for taking on this role. Shout out to Anna James for all your leadership in that role over the last three years. We are lucky to still have Kim Sharpe staying on as our Treasurer and thanks to Janelle Hazlitt for becoming our Secretary. The PTA is in great shape and looking forward to more fun events and fundraisers.

Reporting to Parents:

Are you interested in giving me your feedback about our reports at the end of term? If you are, I’d love to chat with you. Either email me or come and see me for a yarn about them as I’d love some parent voice.

Turitea Hoodies:

Are you new to Turitea and don’t have a hoodie or is your child’s hoodie too small and they need a bigger one? We have opened the orders and are doing another run. Order here and get in by Friday 3rd June.

Eggs:
The Hercoe’s are back selling their lovely free range eggs. $7 per dozen (with a $1 going back to the school) These are available from the office via Julie. Support local.

Chess Club

We have had lots of interest in this with the Cluster Chess Competition coming up on Thursday 2nd June. This is on every morning in Kauri from 8.15-8.45am. Cheers Trish for running this with your senior students.

Covid Vaccination Clinics:

Mid Central DHB has informed us that they have two pop up vaccination clinics in our area coming up. They are at the Linton Community Hall on 8th June and the Tokomaru Community Hall on the 15th June. They both run from 2-5pm. We have forms at the office if you would like to take advantage of this.
